WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a spiritual healing art developed in Japan in 1922 by Mikao Usui. It originates from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. As a practice it is holistic in that it uses the universal life force energy to bring balance and harmony to the body, mind, and spirit. It is a unique and gentle method which originally was created as a way to help one's self. After a period of time, perhaps years of practicing on one's self, a practitioner would then use their skills to help others. Reiki can be used independently or in combination with other healing modalities. Reiki may be hands-on or hands-off; either way it connects us with the healing powers that are inherent within, while at the same time rebalancing both the practitioner and the patient.
I first learned Reiki with Debra Harding in Burlington over 10 years ago, with level 1 and 2. I use these techniques in a variety of ways. I find that when I ground myself, connect with my breathe, and allow myslef to be a channel for divine love and light, beautiful things happen while working with patients in hands-on-sessions. I invite the divine spirits of unconditional love and peace to be with me and for whoever I am working with to receive whatever is in their highest good. Great healing and deep peace can come out of this pure intention.
